How to Backup WordPress:
Step 1: Use a Backup Plugin
- Install a plugin like UpdraftPlus, BackupBuddy, or All-in-One WP Migration.
- Backup your database, themes, plugins, and media files.
- Store a copy in cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive).
Step 2: Check for Updates
- Log into Your WordPress Dashboard
- Go to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin and enter your credentials.
- In the left menu, click Dashboard → Updates.
Step 3: Update WordPress Core
On this page, you can update the plugins and the WordPress Core
- If an update is available, you’ll see a “New version of WordPress is available” notification.
- Click Update Now.
- WordPress will download the latest version and update automatically.
- Once completed, check your site to ensure everything works fine.
Step 4: Clear Cache (If Using a Caching Plugin)
If you use a caching plugin like WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, or WP Super Cache, clear your cache after updating WordPress.
Step 5: Test Your Website
- Visit your site and test pages, images, forms, and plugins.
- If you notice errors, check:
- Plugin conflicts (Deactivate recently updated plugins).
- Theme compatibility (Switch to a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Four).
- Restore backup if needed.
