Let’s get back to the basics.

If your website keeps breaking, crashing, or crawling at snail speed, it’s not just annoying—it’s costing you sales, trust, and visibility. And more often than not, the root of the problem is your host.

That’s why this guide exists: to help you find the best WordPress hosting for writers—the kind that delivers on speed, support, and scalability without drowning you in tech jargon.

I’ve worked with dozens of authors and creatives to build beautiful, functional websites. But here’s the truth no one tells you:

💀 A gorgeous site built on a garbage host is like putting a mansion on quicksand.

Your hosting choice isn’t a background decision. It’s the digital land your entire author brand is built on.

What You Actually Need From a Host (No Tech-Speak Required)

Don’t worry, I won’t drown you in server specs or pitch you affiliate links. Here’s the short list:

🛡 Reliability – Is your site up 99.9% of the time? No excuses.
⚡ Speed – Readers won’t wait. Your site needs to load in seconds, or they’re gone.
🔐 Security – You’ve got books, products, and email sign-ups on that site. Protect it.

These three things are non-negotiable. And yes, all the fancy features mean nothing if your site is down when your next release goes live.

If you are publishing on 3rd party websites and not on your actual website but your site is down, that is nothing too major. It won’t stop readers from buying it because they should find it on Amazon etc

But I mean, if you’re going to have a website, might as well make sure that’s live.

Also, just because you aren’t selling directly on your website, you never know who’s Googling our name. Who’s looking for you and your books. If they stumble upon your website and it’s not working, that doesn’t look professional.

The Hosting You Choose = The Growth You Allow

If you go cheap or free now, I can almost guarantee you’ll regret it later.

That free plan? It comes with:

  • Zero scalability
  • Weak support
  • Ads you can’t remove (sometimes)
  • And limitations that will break you when your audience starts growing

You’re not building a hobby blog.

You’re building a brand.

So act like it.

Personally, I don’t like websites like Wix and other similar sites because backend editing is restrictive. Not to mention weak support and no flexibility when it comes to editing a website.

So… What Kind of Hosting Do You Actually Need?

Let’s break it down—no fluff, just facts:

🆓 Free WordPress Hosting

Verdict: Hard no.
You get what you pay for—and with free, you’re paying in lost professionalism and growth. If you’re serious about your author career, skip this entirely.

🤝 Shared Hosting (Most Common)

Best for: New authors, small businesses, lean budgets. You share server space with other websites. It’s affordable and reliable if you’re with a good provider.

AKA Siteground.

Just know: if your traffic explodes or you need more storage? You’ll be asked to upgrade. Fast and guess what, Siteground has more packages to allow your website to grow.

🔧 WordPress Hosting vs. General Hosting

WordPress-specific hosting isn’t always that different—it’s just optimized to handle WordPress faster, more securely, and with better customer support.

General shared hosting works too, but make sure they support WordPress 100%.

🔥 Managed WordPress Hosting

Best for: Authors who want zero backend stress. The host handles everything: speed, security, backups. You pay more, but your peace of mind is worth it—especially when launches or preorders are on the line.

My Go-To Web Hosts (Tested, Trusted, Non-Negotiable)

I don’t recommend anything I haven’t personally used.

I only recommend what I’ve personally used—and would use for my own sites.

✔ SiteGround – reliable, fast, solid support.

✔ Kinsta – premium performance, best for scaling big traffic.

🚫 What about Bluehost?

Some clients use it because of the low price, but I’ve seen enough site downtime to make it a pass for my official recommendations. Stability matters—your readers (and sales) shouldn’t have to wait.

🚫Inmotion

InMotion can be fine for bare minimum sites, but their email handling is a nightmare.

Setting up a simple contact form? You’ll be forced to install 3rd-party SMTP plugins just to send messages properly—and even then, it’s hit or miss.

That’s too much friction for authors who need their site working day one without tech headaches.

💡 Final Thought

Your website is more than a digital business card—it’s your 24/7 storefront, sales engine, and reader experience hub.

Don’t risk that on bargain-bin hosting.
