Let’s be honest: most author book pages feel like forgotten corners of the internet. A cover image, a short blurb, maybe a few links—done. And while that’s… functional, it’s far from irresistible.
But when you treat your book page like a sales page and a reader experience, something powerful happens:
Readers stay longer.
They get emotionally hooked.
And—most importantly—they click that buy button.
In this article, I’m breaking down exactly what to include on your book page, why it matters, and how to design it in a way that turns browsers into binge-readers.
Your Book Page Should Do Two Things:
- Sell the book
- Deepen the reader’s emotional connection
Sounds simple, right?
But if you’re wondering how to actually make that happen—don’t worry, I’ve got you.
Let’s break down exactly what to include on your book page (and how to design it with intention) so it doesn’t just inform… it converts. Whether you’re launching your first title or rebranding an entire series, here’s how to turn that page into a powerful, binge-worthy experience.
A Show-Stopping Cover
This is your first visual hook. It should be large, clear, and professionally placed.
Bonus points if it has a shadowbox, animated glow, or matches the aesthetic of your overall site.
Pro Tip: Add a subtle hover effect or background texture to give the cover more presence on the page.
Book Cover Design
If you can’t afford a book cover designer, use Canva. Use free stocks, take advantage of the trial offers that Shutterstock and other stock site offer sometimes.
I also like Depositphotos and if all else fails, use Midjourney and create your own images.
This book cover, I put it all together in Canva by simply playing around with the image settings and combining a few images together. Where there is a will, there is a way and you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a professional book cover.

To make pretty 3D Images, you can use this free site. I would caution, that once you create a 3D image, next use Canva to remove the extra space/padding around the image. There is just too much empty space around the image and it will look right if you try to upload it to your website or social media.
A Blurb That Bleeds Emotion
Your blurb shouldn’t just summarize—it should seduce. Think about:
- High stakes
- Intriguing conflict
- Character-driven hooks
- Emotional tone (dark, sexy, tragic, whimsical)
Here is an example of a Book Summary:
A witch with dormant powers. A Vampyr imprisoned for centuries. A destiny that could save or doom them both.
Viola never meant to awaken him. One accidental spell, and she unleashes Matic—an exiled half-demon vampyr with eyes like winter’s edge and a voice that drips temptation and damnation. He’s not just a creature of the night—he’s centuries of rage wrapped in lust, betrayal, and something far more dangerous: purpose.
Now marked by fate and hunted by those who fear Matic’s return, Viola finds herself tethered to the one being whose very presence makes her skin burn with warning—and want. Because Matic doesn’t just promise protection. He offers oblivion.
As Samhain nears and the veil between realms thins, ancient blood rites begin to stir. Devoted worshippers rise to complete broken rituals, shadows hunger for their master’s return—and Viola begins to unravel, drawn deeper into the magnetic pull of a monster who doesn’t just haunt her… he claims her.
And when truths buried in ash rise from the grave, Viola must face the one question that could shatter her: Is the real danger the demon beside her… or the darkness awakening within her?
Tropes & Tags
Tropes are candy for readers. They search for them. They crave them.
Write to market and study the tropes.
Include a small, stylized list like:
🔥 Enemies to Lovers
🩸 Vampire x Witch
🖤 Morally Gray Antihero
🧨 Forced Proximity
💋 One Bed / No Escape
Pro Tip: Make them clickable to connect to other books or series on your site.
If you click here for Blood Descent, you will see there are other book placements when you scroll down on the page, but also her entire book page is a call to action (CTA):
- Book reviews
- The next book is featured
- She explains why she’s offering free serial novels
- Her shop is on display
This isn’t just good design—it’s smart strategy.
The easier it is to explore your books and your world, the more likely readers are to keep buying.
Teaser Quotes
Pull 1–3 magnetic lines from the book—something spicy, mysterious, or emotional.
These grab attention, stir desire, and break up the page visually.
Examples:
“Touch me again, and I’ll show you what I really am.”
“He was the villain—and I still begged for more.”
Pro Tip: Style these in a blockquote or unique font to make them pop. Or use Canva and create pretty images and upload it to the page.
For Blood Descent, the author opt to use reviews instead of teaser quotes. She provided reviews/comments from her Inkitt account.
Audio Sample (If You Have One)
Let readers hear your world. A 30–60 second sample gives them another emotional hook—and increases conversions for audiobooks.
Use an embedded player with a simple visual for a clean, professional look.
Reader Praise
Social proof sells. Showcase reviews or quotes from readers, bloggers, or influencers.
“Dark, devastating, and absolutely addictive.”
“I devoured this in one night—then went back for seconds.”
Buy Buttons (That Actually Convert)
Make them easy to find. Use branded, bold buttons that say more than just “Buy Now.” Try:
- Grab It on Amazon
- Download Direct + Save
- Snag the eBook for $3.99
- Listen on Audible
Pro Tip: List multiple formats: eBook, paperback, audiobook, direct buy—with visual icons for quick scanning.

Optional Enhancers
Want to go above and beyond?
- A character aesthetic collage
- A short trailer or GIF
- Series reading order or “Start Here” guide
- Link to a related bonus scene or members-only content
These aren’t just extras—they’re reader obsession triggers.
